The man aint foolin around

©Jeffrey Hellman 1994

I was a classroom clown, I'd do anything

To be one of the crowd; defy authority

I could find a way around most anything

Til the man stopped fooling around

I ignored the law, it seemed to ignore me

asleep at the wheel,figuratively

I drove my car but the man was not asleep

When the day finally came

I could not believe

that for want of a license the Judge decreed

along with a fine, 10 days until you're free

Friends I cannot tell you

Your eyes could not see

The shame and the pain

coursing through me

as they inked my fingers

and processed me

You can hate the system

you can get a law degree

The system's not bad

It's the men that it breeds
